White streaks under tie downs.
Anyone with the 07 is surely familiar with the white streaks under the tie downs on the bed. What are you using to remove them? They are making me cranky. :hmmm:
Yeah, what is that
I have an 07, and i have been just washing them off, and using a little rubbing compound, that seems to work.
cycochris, it's probably wax from doing the rear panels. You can use peanut butter (so I've heard) or do like I do, I keep my old toothbrushes for just such things. I put some ArmorAll on the brush and hit the areas. It works pretty well, and also doesn't take alot of time or effort. I also use the same tactic for the arm rests and door sills were my arm sometimes sits. Cleans it pretty well.
It's not wax that is causing the streaks. This is the biggest issue I have with detailing this truck. I wish those tie downs were not there. I have not found a way to stop this from happening. The only thing I found that helps is to keep a think layer of Teflon wax on the rear bed so the hard water does not get down to the clear coat. Also heard 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water will help break it up. I have yet to test it.
I get drips there all the time (from the tie downs), but never stains or streaks. If you are getting permanent (or stubborn) stains/streaks, that's a sign your wax/sealant is gone -- or not doing it's job. Hit it with a good cleaner wax, polish, or something like ScratchX, then seal.
BTW, Steeda makes billet plates to replace the tie downs (for F150, but they also fit us). However, I'm sure you'd still get drips from them.
Wish they made that cargo delete piece with paintable surface. Or just black. Hate shinny stuff.
^ Some have painted them. I think there are pics on the "other" board. They are quite expensive.
I don't mind the hooks. I've actually used them once.
I'm tempted to shave them off. They are not worth the benefit. I have yet to use them myself.
I have used them a few times. I was looking into having some covers made once, but then someone else who made them before posted and said he had some left over from his last batch (a year after the last time anyone heard from him) and filled my quota for having them made. Now I'm going to get a set made for mine from a buddy who owns a machine shop.
i love the tie downs actually, for me they have been very practical and never had a big issue with white streaks. I do, however, have the issue with drips on the back tail gate but they come off very easily.
I like my tie downs too. Get a LOT of use out of them and the roof rack. Never had a problem with white streaking.

I've seen matte black ones. I'll see if I can find them again.
Please find them. I've looked few hours online and had no luck locating them.
Mooshin, since you have a 2nd gen ST, the only option you have are the ones made by "Steeda". (at least that's what I think the company's name is) They will probably be hard to find, and will probably be chrome.
