I just got fully sythenic and will be checking the oil color. So far it looks pretty good, almost the same as when I put it in. My miles are already "high" so next go around will put in the high mileage oil

I run synthetic in my boat (4.3 litre chevy) and the oil stays clean as a wistle all summer long(only about 8 weeks up here  )

More than you'll ever want to know about oil ......

Werd. Motorcraft Blend is about the best oil for the money there is.
Syn Blends and full Syns are "better", it's just a matter of do you want to pay more money for "better"? I use Mobil 1 0w-30.

Used Oil Analysis is the only way to know for sure.

I'm not to sure why you wouldn't want to pay more for a better product. Unless there is no need to pay the extra cost. After putting in Fully synth I have noticed a difference. But heck it could be a placebo effect or something.

I just put MC 5w20 + MC FL820S filter......on my Chrysler :crazydancin:! It's nice that the hemi takes the same filter as my Sport Trac.

I typically switch to full synthetic around 5k mi. I usually run dino or partial-synthetic for the first oil change. Pennzoil Ultra is the new rave. I usually buy synthetic + quality filter deals when they have specials.

.....Personally I don't think the extra cost of Mobil 1 or Royal Purple is justified.....

For engines I would definately agree, but what would you recommend for the T/C and Diff's? I am coming to the end of the first year with my Trac and I am going to change out all the fluids this spring so I can start scheduled maintenance. (Yes regular oil changes have been done so far on the engine ;))

I was thinking of going Royal Purple for the Diffs and T/C, only because I dont plan on changing them very often (30k ish). In my opinion, going top grade for something that you only do every 2 years would be worth it, but would love to hear others opinions.

Royal Purple does make good gear oil (so I've heard). Their engine oil doesn't have too good of following some places.

Redline, Amsoil, Mobil1 would be some other brands to look into.

Thanks, Amsoil is one that keeps coming up when I'm looking around. Time for some in depth review.

I had about 90K miles on my 00 eclipse GT when i switched it to full syn. The car actually made a 'tick' when I'd first start it after it had been sitting for a while, or...after being off for 30 minutes in the winter (in Fl).

And after I put the full syn (mobil 1 10w-30) it ticked for about 10 minutes. I took it out and drove it...spiritedly...and the ticking went away. The ONLY time I ever heard it again was in the dead of winter when the temp dropped to like 19 degrees a couple times. But the car loved the new oil. It ran better, sounded better. It was really quite surprising how much of a difference it made.

But to get back to your question. Syn blend I would guess is half lab mix, half dino juice.
