Thinking about trading
My 07 ST has been hit twice in the last 1 1/2 years. The last time i was rear ended which put me in the trunk of the car in front of me. Now thing's are just breaking on it and I'm thinking it's time to trade. I pretty much refuse to do business with the Ford dealership here, (it's personal between me and the owner), so Ford is out.
I'm thinking about a Toyota 4Runner. Anyone have any experience with them?

stonemiser- 12-15-2009

I hear ya. My local dealer sucks big time. Thus the reason that unless I can get a F150 Raptor for a good price, I'm out of the Ford business. I'll probably catch hell, but what really catches me is the H3T or the Chevy Canyon with the V8. Toyota vehicles are good to, just not crazy about how they redesigned the bodies on the 4Runners. Had a '89 Toy P/U and loved it. Get what appeals to you. This way you don't regret the purchase.

I had no idea that the Chevy Colorado could come with a V8, just looked at the chevy website and it has a 5.3L V8...damn! Thats the main reason I picked up a ST, it was smaller than a F-150 but still had a V8, oh well...I love my ST.

This is the first year for it. I've got my eyes on a few of the dealer used ones for sale on autotrader. Most are selling for $28K with less than 10K miles on them. They get about the same MPG I'm getting now, which is pretty good.

Go on and put on your little boy bow tie, Government Motors needs you!!!

Kidding

No I'm not!

have they re-designed the overall appearance of the Canyon, couldn't really tell @ the chevy web site just now. Without the fenderflares, it is much more appealling to me, but those oem fender flares just detract from the overall appearance IMO. The V8 sounds good, why the v6 doesn't have 250-275 I haven't figured out. Would make it a hella truck then. GL with your decision

GSU4x4- 12-15-2009

btw...the Chevy model is the Colorado, the GMC model is the Canyon

stonemiser- 12-15-2009

Yeah, yeah, yeah, Colorado/Canyon, same thing.

I agree about the stupid OEM Flares they had on. Didn't care for the look, but the newer ones are much better looking. The interior needs upgraded, but hell, the interior of my ST is just the basic. I don't need the creature comforts put there by the manufacturer. I like to make it my way anyway.

They also have a V8 version of the H3T but the MPG really takes a plunge with it. They don't have a "V6", the other engine is a I5. Nice little engine though. Powers my wife's H3 really well and gets the same MPG in the H3 as my ST. Got 21.5MPG from my house to Va Beach. Would be better if they put a 6-speed tranny in there though. RPM's are high at 70MPH.

As for going GM, well, let me tell ya, our local GM dealer is a hell of a lot easier to get things done with than my Ford dealer. That is where Ford lost me. If it wasn't for me knowing mechanics, they would have ripped me off quite a few times with my wife's '05 Mountaineer. It was a POS and they could never get it fixed. We fixed it by giving the problem to someone else. I like the newer ST's, but not enough to have to deal with those a**holes again.

My local Ford dealer is great. We sort of know the owner (his family attends our church). Their service is great (although I only go their for warranty work), and their sales is good. I will continue to be loyal because they are so close to my house, and have been their forever. However, my next SUV/CUV will have 3 rows. My wife would not drive a Flex. Maybe the new Explorer will be promising. I would drive an Ecoboost Flex:)

The Colorado 5.3 would really be nice, but I think they are quire smaller than ST as far as interior room goes? They are typically rated quite poorly for reliability as well.

stonemiser- 12-16-2009

Little less room in the rear seats for the Colo/Canyon. Not much, but smaller. I don't go by the "Reliablity Rating" of vehicles. The ST, when I got mine, was piss poor. Have had no problems with mine. Going on 100K here soon.

korey08XLT- 12-16-2009

True. I don't pay much attention to the "black dots" either. I vision myself keeping my ST for a long time. IF I ever traded, I would trade the Mariner in on a 3-row CUV/SUV. Right now, CX-9 would probably be my choice.

I just can't see myself buying Honda or Toyota. My brother & sister have always bought Honda/Toyota (anything other than Domestic). I have ONLY bought domestic (most Ford & Dodge). Thus, I can't see stooping to their level:) (My father has also always bought Domestic. I'm the only one who listened.)

Yeah, my local Ford dealer will NEVER get a dime from me again. I don't appreciate being fired for BS. The only reason I am currently driving Fords is I USED to get a huge discount working at the dealer. But I do love my Fords and have no problem with FORD, luckily I live where there are many Ford dealers around. So I dunno...

As for the Toyota, they are overpriced.

I hate GM, just the idea of them taking money in the bailout because of their own stupid decisions. Besides the 3 GM cars I owned were total POS's.

I had two Nissan trucks prior to the Sport Trac, an 01 Frontier and a 94 hardbody. And I will say they were good enough for repeat business!

nobouncecap- 12-19-2009

my biggest disappointment with the Trac is that its so picky with tires. Thats about it. Bought it used from another dealer that had about everything under the sun a far as car makes goes. I like ford, really do not like the canyon. the one i drove felt too muck like the old s-10. my next ford will be a 150 love the cab and for me best the silver and the ram by a long shot.

JoeCool- 12-20-2009

My next truck will be a full size too. I love the look of the new 09 F150.

ncranchero- 12-20-2009

I sold my F150 Super Cab 4x4 when I got the Trac finished. For everyday transportation I like the Trac better. I didn't expect to like it as well but I do. It's much easier to maneuver/park and has a much more "sporty" feel to it. With a few more suspension mods I'll have it right!
