Step Bar Removal or Refinish
So this morning I figured I would take some time to remove the step Bars on my Trac to begin the refinishing process. They have a few rust spots which I will take care of once and for all.

After I took them off, I kind of liked the look & thought I might just leave them off.

The the reality of it all set in. I asked my wife to get in the truck & it basically looked like an episode of "Little People, Big World" as she is 5'1" tall!

Looks like I will refinish & reinstall them.
Sorry, no pix as she would have KILLED me!

I'm only 5'6" and don't have the step bars. And I've done the TT lift. My kids have gotten used to getting in by themselves. I'm particular to without myself.

Gee Andy, your wife is an inch or two taller than mine. I took the steps off of my F150 4x4 and caught the devil for it ......... they're back on.

I prefer the no-step look and hope that once I get mine lowered she'll be able to get in and out reasonably easily. I have 2" lowering blocks to install along with the air shocks. Then I'll adjust the front down to match.

Yeah She insisted that I get them done & back on as soon as possible. She told me she doesn't want to relive the "Dodge Dakota" Days which was the predecessor of my Trac!

Looked best with them on the truck. Just my opinion.

I like it without, but sometimes you have to settle for function over form. The only reason why I have nerf/step bars on both of mine, is due to my kids. They can easily get in/out with them.

I will have to put them back on soon. Since I took them off I have been hearing an incredibly annoying shrilling sound from the passenger compartment front side.
I can't quite figure it out but since I removed the step bars, something is probably not sitting right.

I hope for your sake that she doesn't read your posts!

I like it better without. I took mine off for one day (repainting black), and hated how it looked. on the 07-up models the frame hangs down about 6 inches lower than the body and has wiring and e-brake line attached to it. Looked horrible.
