CAI
I tried to install a CAI that i bought off ebay tonight. There is a plastic fitting that comes out the p.s. valve cover. When I was taking off that hose that runs from the stock intake to this fitting it was stuck. I was able to get off the quick disconnect, but in the process it sounded like that fitting that goes into the VC cracked. I looked at it close but it looked ok. just twists very slightly. Should i be concerned? My truck is now stuck for the weekend in the garage. The new intake tube is about 1/4 inch too long and hits the rad shroud. I'll have to cut it at work on Monday. Also the fitting for that hose that runs to the vc on the new tube seems to be in the wrong place, that has to be moved somehow.
Which CAI did you get? The EBay one I bought bolted right up. I put my filter back on now, just didn't use the piping. Used the OEM piping from the MAF to the Throttlebody. The rubber grommets for the EBay one had cracks in them so I decided not to reinstall them. I had a problem with the ST running rough and I thought it might have been the culprit, but here it was a POS Bosche Plug.

I bought the one that was in the link you posted. My ST is an 05 so im not sure if its a little different. how did you make out using that 1/2 hose that came with the kit? Thats what goes to the fitting that seems a little loose. I took another look and it doesnt look broken. just moves so slightly like if the twisted it cw or ccw it would spin out??

I took some pics but im not sure how to insert them ??>
you have to upload them unto a online database. Most places are free up to a certian amount of space. but like photobucket and other places like that will work. then you put hit the

button again.
If you're talking about the breather hose (line that runs from the valve cover to the intake, you should be fine. It's really not needed and Todd sells the BiPass kits for it. It will get rid of the hose and replace it with a filter and comes with a plug for the intake. Or you can get the parts and do it yourself. Easy and it'll get rid of that sightly hose. As long as you're not getting a CEL, you'll be fine.
I was able to get a new fitting from ford. I then found out the old one wasnt broke.

CAIFinally done. At first engine idled high but now seems to be better.

Looks good. Did you remove the neg battery cable during install? That may explain the high idle. It typically take a few minutes (or a few WOT runs) for the ECU to learn the new air volume.
Looks great, and Korey is spot on with the high idle.
Hi guys. I'm new to the forum.
For what it's worth, I got the following setup to work:
I had a complete C&L Street Tune CAI system that I kept from an '08 Mustang GT I just departed with to get the Sport Trac. The MAF has the insert sleeve so a 'tune ' is not needed. So I used the C&L MAF housing with the ST MAF, connected the K&N cone filter on the end. The K&N came with a heat shield which I flipped around to keep engine heat away from the filter. Works well. No Check engine light, no high idle that I noticed. I had disconnected the battery when I did the change over. I can post pics tonight of the setup if anyone is intereseted.
I think I may get the Nocturnal air intake plumbing (from MAF to TB), and use the C&L setup on the end. The nice thing about the C&L setup is that I can remove the MAF insert tube to get maximum CFM air flow and with an XCal3 tuner probably get a pretty good 'tune'. I'm open to comments & thoughts on this setup. Oh, and what convinced me to try this was comparing the replacement MAF part number between the '08 ST and the '08 Mustang GT - they were the same. HP rating difference between the two vehicles is 8hp (292 v. 300). I couldn't use the MAF to TB tube from C&L because the TB connection was more oblong not round and it goes to the driver side for the Mustang, but has to go to the passenger side for the Sport Trac. Couldn't flip it around to fit.
Great forum!

^ Great info. Thanks. I was wondering if additional Mustang parts would work. I'd be interested in pics.
yeah man pics would be cool and maybe if you are willing to take several pics. make a DIY project post.
Here's a link to a couple of photos on my C&L CAI setup.

I just put the stock airbox setup back on to compare gas mileage readings. If I put the C&L setup back on and get the Nocturnal MAF to TB tubing I'll take a bunch of photos to show the process.
