Never do it the easy way!
This red '01 got me into the Sport Trac scene. I needed 4 doors and I thought a ST might be better than going Super Crew. My Super Cab is getting a lot of miles too. I had gotten out-bid on a couple of lower mileage Tracs and I really didn't care if I got this one or not ...... but I did. Nice Trac except for my wanting a 4x4 and that it has 158K miles on it.

It didn't take long to realize that used ST parts are HIGH, so high that I could just buy another and come out ahead. Eventually this '02 4x4 with 69K miles came up for sale. Lower mileage AND 4x4, just what I wanted.

So now I've stripped them both out and will use the red parts to fix the gold one. Lots of trouble but a really good price and I enjoy doing it. Plus I'll have a complete front end, motor/trans/rear end to possibly fix another one.

Wow. You do have some work ahead of you. But like you said, if you enjoy it, then it's not work.

Always nice to see a favorite "animal" saved from the pound. Let alone two.

You may know more about this than me, but wouldn't the red one be easier to restore? I'm not up on body work, but I love the results of good body work when done.

It's only trouble if you hate doing it!

Rebuilding/restoring your own stuff is not

where did you find them listed?

Yeah, the red one would have been the easier to fix. I was going to buy a third one killed in the front and fix the red & gold ones with it. It's easy to get in over your head ....... and bank account ........ if you don't watch out! Soooo I decided to just fix the '02 4x4 but I sure hate to chop up the red one. I like the red better than the gold (no offense nobouncecap ) but you can't choose color & options when you buy salvage.

There's a local independent salvage sale that I watch for them. The national company sales out price me! Oh, and two that I bid on ended up being shipped to Mexico. I saw them loaded at an export company.

I bought this gold one on May 14th. Look what I found in a search ............ just 3K miles before it was crashed.

They have an 05, hit in rear, with 36K miles that will be coming up soon but I'm all spent out!
