JOBLESS AGAIN AS OF LAST FRIDAY, 9/18/09
(7/24/09)
Well I will start with this statement... It's good to know who your "friends" are... BECAUSE ANYONE, ESPECIALLY THE SO-CALLED ONES WILL STAB YOU IN THE BACK IF THEY THINK IT WILL GET THEM MORE "BROWNIE POINTS!!!"
Long story short, some brown noser at work lied on me and got me fired today right around lunchtime. We were all "friends", going and hanging out after work, Facebook, myspace, etc. After NINE YEARS as a technician at Crossroads Ford of Cary (yes, I said the name, they deserve the bad rep) I don't get an opportunity to explain or defend myself, just the shaft.
They have been firing left and right for little BS reasons in the past two years since business has slowed down. Rather than laying people off THE HONEST WAY which makes the a-holes have to pay full unemployment benefits... One earlier this year who had worked there 14 years got fired for "stealing" a $3 can of carb/intake cleaner because he put it in his car, intending to use it at home on an older car. RIGHT TO WORK STATES SUCK!
The biggest shock to me is my boss has been a "friend" for 10 years... WTF?!
So I guess Monday morning I am hunting for a new job! This may work out for the better anyway, I haven't gotten a raise in 5 years. But it sucks in THIS ECONOMY, especially with the automaker's struggle. I may try independent shops as they have actually seen an INCREASE in business as of late.

File for unemployment insurance anyway. If they contest it will take time away from them as they have to be available for the phone hearings & appeals... and time is all you have now! Additionally they will require "proof" of why you should be denied benefits.
You have nothing to lose.

Man, that sucks!! Believe me, it can happen to anyone, anywhere. I'm with Andy, give them all the "trouble" you can. The "brown nosers and a$$ kissers" and those that require the nosin' will eventually get theirs. I bailed out at 27 years because the management changed & I wouldn't kiss up to "her". I now get a nice check every month and work a nice stress free job 25-30 hours a week, making more $$$ than before I retired! I'm lucky I know. It's a job, man. There's still places for good competent experienced employees. Good luck!

That's a bummer! I wish you the best in finding a new job.
I was laid off last Spring -- after working for Sprint for 10 years. KC is not very abundant with tech jobs. It took me 6 months to land a new job. I found my current position right before the economy took a huge dump. This year, Sprint laid off double as last year. I'm so glad I got laid off last year! My new job is very cool. I work for the Marines headquarters (DoD). The pay is better, and benefits are equal.
Sometimes things work out for a reason, and you may be better off in the long run.

Have to agree with that statement! "Keep on tracking" everything will work out
JoeCool- 07-24-2009
I got reminded on another forum, guess I was so mad I forgot to give their reason for firing me, so here it is...
To make a long story short... alleged theft. We have this incentive board where we keep track of sales by ticket numbers and earn a monthly bonus from it. I earn a lot from this incentive because I am a good selling (but honest) technician. But I am not even the best seller. Well, someone ratted (lied) on me to the boss saying i was cheating on it. He supposedly checked up on my numbers. I was called to his office, wasn't shown the "evidence", given an opportunity to explain myself, defend myself, paperwork was already done, decision was made. I don't even know why he wasted my time going in there, could have just relayed the message. I told my "friend" (the new boss, just promoted a couple months ago) of 10 years off too! Let him know just what he had become.
This is the crap they do there, been a lot of firings for BS reasons. Just got done talking to a woman on IM earlier tonight who was fired last month, found out her "reason" was she didn't meet expectations... doing the same job for 7 years, WTF, took you that long to decide? I mean I know she is very pretty, but come on...

UPDATE... GOT A JOB ...
Thought I would update on this one, even though I already did in another topic. After asking around at around 50 places, and only getting applications at 6... I got an offer with Sears in the Auto Center. I am overqualified for the job, and it's quite a bit less than I made at the Ford dealer, but it's better than the nothing I am earning now. Plus I can always move up, especially with my experience. Hopefully I make good on commission to make up for the low hourly rate.
(edit) WHY DID IT POST ON THE RIGHT SIDE?

So Joe,
When do you start the new Job?
JoeCool- 08-15-2009
I start this Monday (Aug. 17)

WELL...
Update again. back to being unemployed! I had a much better offer with another company, Firestone, took the job and gave Sears my two week notice. Then the a-hole gave my job to a transfer from out of state! And Sears had already hired my replacement, so...
But I did find out last week that after a hearing, I am qualified for unemployment because the Ford dealer fired me for a BS reason, and unemployment pay is BETTER than what I made at Sears although it is less than I made at Ford, but whatever, at least I will make SOMETHING.
I may take this opportunity and go back to school and better myself. One of the good things that came with this new economic stimulus package is your unemployment can pay for that.

Well, I applied and they did contest. It took almost two months, but the ESC did rule in my favor, I am getting back pay for the month I was out of work. They pretty much said to make a long story (actually a letter) short, Crossroads Ford fired me for a BS reason. I have started getting paid since last Monday.
And after talking to the rep. last week, I can reapply next week. They will count my recent job as a temp. since it was less than 30 working days and I will still get paid from the Ford dealer job.

Sorry to hear of your problems. That sucks. But on the other hand, good to hear that you won't be out in the cold as far as some type of money coming in.

Did you have a letter of intent from Firestone? Did they make the job offer to you in writing?
