Gen 2 Radio Install
I just got an 07 a month ago and want to upgrade the stereo to an in-dash nav system but am leery of tearing apart the dash. I've only owned an '02 Ranger and tearing it apart was pretty straight forward, but am worried about some surprises with a new vehicle being loaded with sensors and complex wiring, etc. Does anyone know where I can get a how to or step by step guide other than paying crutchfield's inflated price? Any of you mod vets have tips or tricks for adding a nav unit? What all adapters and harnesses would I need? I would like to keep my steering wheel controls and SIRIUS. (This project stemmed from the fact that I can't get the artist or song title to stay on the display when I'm in satellite mode).

FYI, I'm looking at getting either a Kenwood 6140, JVC KW-NT1 or an Eclipse AVN4430 if that helps. Also, my current unit is the stock 6-disc mp3 unit with subwoofer. Thanks.

I have the Crutchfield guide. I plan to scan it one of these days. It is a PITA compared to the old Ford radios you could remove in 30 secs with the U-shaped tools. You can try Metraonline. They often have instructions online for their dash kits.

PS. I was able to do mine w/o having to remove all the wiring harnesses from behind the center stack. I only had to unplug the tiny top one: "Passenger Airbag Warning" light.

it is not really that hard just make sure your label the wires for the a/c, 4wd section, and radio , pedals and seat warmers so you know where the go after. besides that it is really easy talking of the dash

This gives you the basic instructions. It forgets to mention about removing all the electrical connections behind the OEM dash panel. I only had to remove the top, small Passenger Air Bag harness.
