Dweezil- 07-12-2010

Well, I got the bar from JCWhitney on Saturday...was very excited. So I went to installing the bar. It was pretty easy, the instructions were pretty much useless...basically a couple of pictures that said to put on the brackets then attach the bar to the brackets. Not a big deal though.

I really like the way these bars look. However, the JCWhitney bar is not very strong. Also, when looking at the bar from the side, you can see the brackets, and it just looks strange where the bar meets the brackets. If you're just going for looks, or something on which to mount additional lights, this is probably not a bad choice, but if you want something with a little strength, this one may not be the bar for you.

The picture on their site showed a black bar, with an unfinished steel undertray, which is what I wanted. This one came ALL black. Doesn't look bad, just not necessarily exactly what I wanted. I will either sell it to someone on here for a discounted price, send it back to JCWhitney for a refund (pain in the a$$), or put it on Craigslist to sell here in St. Louis locally. I paid about $260 (including ship/hand). Make me an offer, just remember to factor in shipping/handling.

Anyway, here's the picture. The bar is slightly crooked, as I needed to shim one side, but was late for dinner, so I had to leave it "as is". Again, I like the look of the bar, but I want something more functional with a little more rigidity. I will post a couple of better pictures later today (with any luck).

more functional? what type of function do you want it to do. the function i like about those bars is if you hit someone in front of you, more damage is done to the person you hit and not to you.

This bar is made of pretty lightweight materials. I was hoping for something of equal strength as the rollbar I installed on my Miata. This bullbar would crush like an aluminum can if I was in a collision. In fact, I would guess if I hit it hard enough with my bare knuckle, I could dent it. Of course, I would probably hurt my knuckle in the process....

I see what you mean. Never really thought about the materiel used to make the bars, thought they were all the same stuff.

dude, you won't find a "functional" b'guard or bumpers, just not enough aftermarket support for that kind of thing and the way the mounts are located, its just not feasible enough nor strong enough unless you want to pull the front facia off.

Rule of thumb - If there is no place for tow hooks, there isn't a place for a study mount.

1. better radio head unit and speakers
2. save the oem radio and speakers and install them in the bed of the st for tailgating parties.
3. repaint the cladding
4. install a motorized lumber and possible switch out the seats with the motor.

This is before the Uniques and after the Hankook 265/70-17's

Going to do the F150 rear springs and TT with longer bolts to get another 1" of lift or so.
Playing with the trans now; VB, external filter, larger cooler, nylon braided hose, AN fittings, PML deep sump pan and AMSOIL Synth ATF.

I have done the TT life, very easy and of course cheap! Just make sure you have it balanced on both sides or else bad things will happen.

Fredness- 08-26-2010

Just ordered the longer bolts from ZabTeck - I ran out of threads on the driverside after 1 or 2 turns (1/2"). I had Sears do an alignment check and it is still within spec, so no worries so far.
