2004 FX4
Hello Everyone!
I am brand new to the forum. I do not have one of these trucks yet but am seriously looking. The only thing really holding me back is that everyone seems to complain about the gas mileage. Are they really that bad?
Anyway, the reason I am posting this question is because I have read a couple of different posts saying ford did not make an FX4 ST, however, I looked at one that is for sale tonight that has been owned by an older (grey hair) Chinese male since new. I highly doubt he would have added the stickers himself. So, did ford actually make these trucks as FX4's, or what is going on? The truck is a Silver 2004, it has grey leather, sunroof, all the goodies, and the plastic flares along the bottom are unpainted, and I thought in 2004 ford started painting these flares the color of the truck. Could this be an FX4 thing?
just trying to get this all sorted out.

Welcome to the club. I don't "think" Ford officially made a FX4 package for the Trac. I'd suggest talking to a Ford dealership salesperson to verify that. Maybe they still have a salesman handbook from '04 with the options.

Sounds like it is a F150 crewcab FX4 not a Sport Trac.

the best i have gotten with my trc was 25 mpg which is pretty good, only happened once but right now i'm looking at 174 miles just below quarter tank. not to sure about the model you are talking about, of course you can get all wheel drive or 4x4.

something else I just remembered, this truck didn't have any carpet, floor was covered in a black rubber mat. Are they all like this?

you mean your using a little more than 3/4 of a tank to go 174 miles?
with a tank size of 22gal that is just over 10mpg. I really hope it is better than that!!!

i guess i worded it wrong then, i have only used just over 1/4 of a tank. It does come with mats for the floor but they all come with a rubber flooring under the mats which is great for cleaning, really helps a lot even if you don't do much out door stuff it helps with spills and such. the big issue I see as far as mpg goes for the ST is that its a heavy vehicle. 3000 pounds?
4.0 v6 it is fitted with is some what lacking in power and even though it has enough power to get up to speed for merging onto the highway and such it has a lot of weight to carry. that is one of the reasons why the new v8 engine for the newer ST models gets better gas mileage because it does not struggle as much.

One, no such thing as a FX4 ST. They put aftermarket stickers back there. No ST came out of the Shop with any type of sticker on the rear Quarter Panels.
Two, for MPG, the ST is comparable to any other Vehicle out there that is this size. I have been looking around at the new Trucks/SUT's out there and they get about the same MPG as the ST. Don't expect to get 31MPG out of the ST. It's to heavy for that. But it does get good MPG compared to similar vehicles.
Three, in 2004 the ST had the Limited and Adrenalin Option that painted the cladding on the bottom and front and rear bumpers. The base XLT model didn't have them painted. In 2005, I think they all came with the cladding painted.

Thanks for all the great info guys, I have pretty much decided this is my next vehicle, After all, what other vehicle can you get heated leather, sunroof, power rear window, 4x4, seat 4 in extreme comfort, and a truck box!
now I just have to sell my PT Cruiser before this "FX4" one I found sells.
BTW, even though they didn't ever come with the FX4 stickers from the factory, they just look right on this vehicle.

No problem with the help, that's what the site is for. Definately, buy the damn thing. I love mine and have had it since 2003. Just shined it up this weekend and still catches my eye.

We have only had our 07 Trac for 5 weeks or so, and we love it. Got 21.5 miles to the gallon on a trip the other week(also got it covered in tar). I was driving at around 110 kph, so if I slowed it down to 90 or 100 I should see 23 or 24. Oh our gallon is larger than yours so results may vary.
I realy like the leather and the fact that there is no carpet, nothing to hold strange odors, just the smell of leather all the time

the 2005 model were the same as the 2004 in regards to the cladding. i have the base model, of course not any more with my mod :o) I have painted my black but they came that ugly gray color.

There you go nobounce, koodos. All the '05's I've seen around here has the cladding painted. I always thought they just did away with the gray crap. I stand corrected.
